This is my Mom’s Peppernut recipie.

Mom’s peppernuts recipe

The recipe for peppernuts that I use is:
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. margarine or shortening (I use the margarine)
3 large eggs
4-5 c. flour
1 t. cinnamon
½ t. nutmeg
½ t. cardamon
½ t. star anise
1 t. baking powder
1 t. salt

Mix first four ingredients thoroughly. Mix dry ingredients and add to first mixture, a little at a time. When well mixed and not sticky, refrigerate the dough for several hours. This makes it easier to handle and cut. Then roll in strips and cut into small pieces and put on cookie sheet. Bake about 10 minutes in a 350° oven. The number of minutes depends on the size of the peppernuts.
